where from the fro ?

The motivation for this post was my recent watch of an episode of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search ( one of many in my ongoing research for my upcoming novel " The power of lycra - oooh how it gives me the tingles ") ..... well.....in this episode, a particular female negro model went goonygoogoo when the stylist insisted she sport an afro......seriously she was more furious than the hand-iwork of a 30 yeard old man who collects stamps enjoying bedroom me-time. This set me off thinking :

1) how far the afro has fallen from a covert gesture of civil protest to a disgarded hair style
choice
2) I've never been upclose to an afro in real life , would i be scared when i see one ?
3) Do i have a fixation for black culture , am i a negrophile ? Kinda like J.D in scrubs except i
